A few other YES Abroad students and I went to Jazz au Chellah on Sunday night. It’s a jazz festival in the old ruins of Chellah, a large ancient cemetery. It’s meant to celebrate both Moroccan and European music.
Before Chellah was rebuilt by Muslims in the seventh century, it was part of a Roman city. Then, the 1755 Lisbon earthquake destroyed the medieval fortress.
The venue was right inside the walls of Chellah. So we were listening to jazz music while we were surround by historical ruins. The venue definitely had a Red Rocks Amphitheatre feel to it. Very cool.
We stayed until around 9:15, and saw a jazz group from Prague, called AghaRTA—and almost saw a Moroccan group, but left because it was late. However, 10/10 would do again!
